As noted on our main page, there have been some further changes in responsibilities in and around the Trust. Bernard Whyte was appointed Chairman in 2007. Brian Sellers has stepped down as Treasurer to be replaced by Phil Parker. David Smith, who was appointed a Trustee in 2004, has also stepped down and has been replaced both as a Trustee and as Secretary by Benedict McHugo. We are very grateful to both Brian and David for all their work for the Trust and wish them well for the future.
Patricia Richardson remains a Trustee, acting as Promotions Secretary with special responsibility for supporting our Coordinators around the UK, and John Shoreland has also joined us as a Trustee. Tony Ockenden continues to advise the Trustees about the status and financing of the Latin Patriarchate schools in the Holy Land.
We extend a welcome to His Beatitude Fouad Twal, who
was installed in Jerusalem as the Latin Patriarch of the Holy Land in
June, 2008. He has already paid a compliment to the Cambridge Nazareth
Trust for its work at Hashimi School, Amman, where he had been a young
priest. We have assured His Beatitude that the Trust will continue to
support the education of the young Christians in accordance with the
priorities given to us by the Director of Education Fr Majdi Siryani. At
this time of handover the Trust acknowledges the dedication of the
current Patriarch's predecessor, His Beatitude Michel Sabbah. Throughout
his twenty five years of stewardship, he maintained a firm resolve with
dignity despite the difficult circumstances facing the Christian
community. We wish him every blessing in his retirement. To learn more
about the work of the Latin Patriarchate, please visit
